Self-support protocol
Andropause protocol balancing male hormone teams. Support vitality through testosterone regulation coordination.
If energy and drive feel low, we respond with care and inquiry.
“May I meet this season with patience. May strength and desire be nourished safely. May I act with wisdom, not haste.”
Andropause (male hypogonadism or late-onset hypogonadism) involves gradual testosterone decline with age, starting around age 30 at roughly 1% per year. Unlike female menopause, this is gradual rather than sudden. Your Leydig cells in your testes produce testosterone in response to LH from your pituitary. With aging, Leydig cell function decreases, your hypothalamus and pituitary become less sensitive to feedback signals, and your sex hormone-binding globulin increases, reducing free testosterone. Low testosterone affects multiple systems: your muscle cells lose anabolic signaling, reducing muscle mass and strength; your dopamine pathways in the nucleus accumbens dampen, reducing motivation and libido; your hippocampus receives less neuroprotective support, affecting memory; your red blood cell production decreases, causing fatigue; your mood regulation suffers from altered serotonin and dopamine. Testosterone also affects your insulin sensitivity, bone density, and fat distribution. The 'organism as team' perspective helps because your endocrine system is naturally downregulating reproductive functions while trying to maintain other vital roles. Your Leydig cells are aging like all cells, your brain is adapting to lower hormone availability, your muscles are receiving weaker growth signals. Supporting your team means sometimes testosterone replacement when levels are clinically low, resistance training to stimulate muscle maintenance through mechanical pathways, stress management since cortisol further suppresses testosterone, quality sleep to support natural production cycles, and addressing underlying health issues (obesity, diabetes) that accelerate decline. Your endocrine system can be supported through its natural aging process. ⚕️ This protocol does not replace professional consultation.
