We have numbness or tingling in the limbs. Causes range from benign (temporary nerve compression from sleeping position) to serious (stroke, spinal cord compression, nerve disease). Danger sign assessment is critical, then address reversible causes.
Task 1: STROKE/SPINAL EMERGENCY ASSESSMENT — If sudden-onset numbness with weakness, face drooping, speech difficulty, severe back pain with bladder/bowel problems → EMERGENCY CARE IMMEDIATELY. Do not delay. These are nerve system emergencies.
Task 2: Outer Nerves (if Compression) — hand nerve, elbow nerve, or leg nerve may be compressed. Causes: sleeping on limb, repetitive wrist bending (typing), leaning on elbows, crossing legs. Relieve compression: ergonomic workstation, neutral wrist positioning, avoid leaning on elbows, nerve stretching exercises.
Task 3: Metabolic Nerve Disease (if Diabetes or Vitamin Shortage) — chronic high blood sugar damages small nerve fibers. B12 shortage impairs nerve coating. Check blood tests: blood sugar, vitamin B12, thyroid. Treat underlying cause. Manage diabetes strictly. B12 supplementation if deficient.
Task 4: Toxins and Medications — alcohol, cancer treatment, certain antibiotics can cause nerve disease. Review medications and substance use with clinician.
