- Adjust workplace: chair with back support, monitor at eye level, feet fully on the floor.
- Break long sitting or standing with short movement pauses every 40–60 minutes.

- In agreement with a doctor/physiotherapist, build a routine of gentle exercises for deep back and core muscles.
- Start with small, regular loads instead of rare "heroic" workouts.

Manage flare-ups safely
- At the first signs of acute pain, reduce load, use heat or cold as recommended, follow prescribed medication regime.
- Avoid sudden twisting and lifting during flare days, even if "it seems easier now".

Support the nervous system
- Chronic pain exhausts; plan rest, sleep and simple pleasant activities as part of treatment, not as laziness.
- Notice catastrophizing thoughts ("I'll be disabled") and answer with more accurate ones: "I have a chronic condition, and I am learning to manage it".
Osteochondrosis often cannot be "cured once and for all", but it can be brought under control. Step by step adjustments in posture, movement and attitude towards rest turn the spine from a permanent battlefield into a structure you cooperate with.
